Esbjerg has emerged as the Danish center of offshore energy and has maintained this position since the oil and later on the gas production began in the 1970’s. Today this position in energy technology includes offshore oil and gas, offshore wind and energy-efficient combustion technology.
Esbjerg contains a large business cluster engaged in these offshore activities. 8.000 people are employed in the offshore industry in Esbjerg Municipality, and the aim is to increase this number.
The offshore work takes place on drilling rigs in the North Sea. In order to be employed in the Danish sector, you have to have certain educations, qualification and course. It is also an advantage if you previously have worked in the offshore industry, but it is not a requirement.
