Tall Ships Races 2014
From the 2nd to the 5th August 2014 close to 100 of the world's largest and most beautiful vessels will once again berth at the Port of Esbjerg.
With that the way has been paved for a very festive occasion. When Esbjerg hosted the event in 2001, half a million people visited the city. In addition to 2001, Esbjerg also hosted the sailing race in 1993.
The purpose of The Tall Ships Races is to educate and help young people from all over the world through sail training. The majority of the thousands of sailors who will berth at Esbjerg Port will be between 15 and 25 years old. The main organization behind the event is Sail Training International.
The route
The vessels will compete on a stretch which begins in Harlingen in Holland on the 3rd July; thereafter continue to Frederikstad and Bergen in Norway and finally end in Esbjerg. Esbjerg will the final destination in the competition and hosts all the festivities, when the winners are announced.
Four ports
The four host cities in The Tall Ships Races 2014 have made a joint presentation in order to demonstrate, that they are ready to set all sails. Harlingen in Holland, Frederikstad and Bergen in Norway and Esbjerg, Denmark are the four participating ports, which The Tall Ships Races will visit in 2014.
