Outside the books
Studying in Esbjerg is much more than just taking classes and going to exams. Esbjerg also has a lot to offer when it comes to sports, culture and night life.
There are a lot of other things to do in or around Esbjerg. Don’t miss a trip to Ribe, located only 30 km from Esbjerg. Ribe is the oldest town in Scandinavia and celebrates its 1300th anniversary in 2010.
To experience breathtaking nature, you do not need to venture far away from the city. Nearby you find The North Sea, The Wadden Sea and the nearby islands of Fanoe and Mandoe. All of these sights give you a piece of the unique nature in this region.
Visit Esbjerg Art Museum or one of Esbjerg’s other museums to be inspired or learn more about the area. Often you will discover history communicated in new ways.
Leisure time
Esbjerg’s cultural life is rich and diverse, and here you will find all kinds of things to fill your leisure time. Soon the city will have you humming all sorts of different tunes. Go to Tobakken to see performing musicians and bands. The Musikhus, Esbjerg Performing Arts Centre, offers all kinds of entertainment from musicals, classical concerts to theatre plays. Aspiring young musicians and other performers take part in events held at the Academy of Music.
For a night out on the town, Esbjerg’s many bars and restaurants often invite you to enjoy different kinds of music. In the summertime, you can visit one of the outdoor musical festivals. The Esbjerg Festival week in august is full of music and other cultural experiences, both indoor and outdoor.
Sports play a large role in Esbjerg, and this also provides you with plenty of opportunities to practice your favourite sport here.
Esbjerg also hosts many different sporting events due to the local teams, which compete at a national level. Go to a soccer, handball, or hockey game to see these sports played at a high level.
The next huge event will be in 2013 and more than 25.000 people are expected to take part in the national meeting of The Danish Gymnastics and Sports Associations.
