The Municipality of Esbjerg is the fifth-largest in Denmark with approx. 115.000 inhabitants. It covers an area of 75,543 hectares or 755 square kilometers.
There are approx. 56 kilometers via the shortest route from the north-western point to the south-eastern corner of our municipality.
Our budget is approx. dkk 8bn.
The city council and committees
The city council has the overall political responsibility for running the municipality and its finances. There are eight special committees that work with cases before they are presented to the city council.
The eight councils include the:

- Health & Care committee
- Children & Family committee
- Culture & Leisure committee
- Planning & Environment committee
- Social Services committee
- Technology & Supply committee
Esbjerg City Council has 31 members. They are elected for the period 1 January 2010 - 31 December 2013. Elections are held every fourth year. The city council meets on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 17.00.
